OSWESTRY’S Llwyd Mansion could play a role in Oswestry tourism going forward as the council looks to extend its partnership in the town.

At Wednesday’s full town council meeting – to be held at the Guildhall from 7pm – councillors will be asked to consider a recommendation to extend a an agreement with Oswestry Borderland Tourism for another two years.

The agenda item for Wednesday’s meeting set out how OBT has increased its performance during the current agreement with the council.

It said: “The four-yeah service level agreement between Oswestry Borderland Tourism (OBT) and Oswestry Town Council ends in March 2024.

“This is an outcome focused agreement, with OBT marketing and promoting Oswestry town and the surrounding area via a variety of approaches.

“A snapshot of key performance measures highlights the work of OBT.

"Since 2020 they have seen an increase in face-to-face visits/enquiries, despite fewer opening days; Facebook and Instagram reach grow from 20k to 97k and Facebook followers up from 3,250 to 12,600, and a doubling of website users to 108,000.

“Members will be aware that options for the future use of Llwyd Mansion reference a visitor offer and it would be prudent to extend the current SLA with OBT to allow those discussions to continue.

“The value of the SLA is indexed linked it was £18,000 in 2020 and will be £24,018 in 2024.”

The meeting begins at 7pm.

Also on the agenda is a motion to purchase specialist recording equipment, costing £750, after it had transpired that meetings had not been recorded, despite an agenda item passed allowing it to happen.

A motion said: “Technical problems and human error have resulted in council meetings not being audio recorded and these have led to some criticism of the council.

“A number of options have been explored and advice sought from a specialist company, and it seems that the simplest way forward would be to supplement the existing audio system with an audio recorder.

“This would have the added benefit of separating the audio recording from the Teams broadcast of meetings and also acting as a backup. In this case recordings will be saved on an SD card and then downloaded onto a laptop.”

The money has not been budgeted for in 2024/25 and will be taken from a different fund.
