A CAR was found down an embankment close to the England and Wales border by Shropshire firefighters on Tuesday morning.

One Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) crew from Oswestry was sent to Craignant, close to Selattyn, at around 7.30am, with assistance from North Wales Fire.

A SFRS spokesman said that no-one was found with the vehicle and that a thermal imaging camera was used to carry out further searches.

They said: “One car was found down embankment – no sign of persons located with vehicle.

“With assistance from North Wales Fire Service.”

A stop message was sent to SFRS control around one hour later confirming no further assistance was required.

Meanwhile, shortly before 4.55pm on Monday afternoon, one crew from Ellesmere joined with Oswestry colleagues at Marsland Close in Oswestry after reports of a property fire.

However, after inspection, firefighters confirmed it was a false alarm because of cooking fumes from a  chip pan.
