THE FAMILY of a director for an Oswestry construction company have paid tribute to their loved one with a memorial bench at Lake Vyrnwy.

Ronald Walter Hill worked his way up the ladder and was a director for Pave Aways, until he sadly passed away last year at the age of 80.

His son, Stephen, alongside his family decided to mark his life “in a way would have approved of”.

Stephen explained: “We thought it was something fitting for us to do.

“We wanted to mark his life in a way he would have approved of – he was really connected with the area.”

Ronald went to primary school in the area and resided below the dam before moving to Llanwddyn as a teenager and going to work in the forests around Lake Vyrnwy, felling trees and working horses.

Stephen said: “He was hard-working and very conscientious.

“When he moved from Lake Vyrnwy and met my mum in Oswestry, at the dances, he worked to get where he wanted.”

Ronald had three sons and always shared his stories with them.

Stephen added: “He was always up for a laugh and had lots of stories for me and my siblings.”

Ronald’s youngest son thanked everyone who helped, including the rangers at the lake and Councillor Bob Kirby.

Stephen continued: “We had the bench delivered to my auntie’s house.

“The rangers picked it up and installed it on the shore – a big shoutout to them for giving up their time to install it in such a fantastic location.

“Councillor Kirby was good at negotiating with the water company.

“Just a big thank you to everyone involved.”

Stephen added that the rangers at would love to hear from anyone who is interested in having memorial bench around the stunning Lake Vyrnwy.
