OSWESTRY volunteer are asking the community to help with items to keep people warm, as the cost of living will only increase as energy prices rise into winter.

Gemma Cassin, Oswestry town councillor, and Sarah Clein, a local businesswoman, are joining forces and are asking people to do the same, to help those who will struggle the most this winter.

They are opening up a stall, The OsWarm, that will run from September 24 until mid December this year, and people are being asked to bring any items suitable for the cold season .

Gemma said: "Warm clothes and blankets are not a solution but they do help; they’re an extra barrier against the cold, and the project will also sign post to other help available

"The last few winters have created a situation where people had to choose between eating or heating, this winter there isn't a choice."

OTHER NEWS:

Warm clothes, blankets, curtains, and any other winter clothing is more than welcome, as they will be distributed to people who will need it the most.

Gemma said that without the assistance of the local community, this project will not be able to help the people who will struggle.

The stall will provide people with items they may not be able to afford but the project will also recycle a huge amount of textiles, with a focus on warm and waterproof clothing, curtains and blankets.

Sarah said that the need for the support on helping people this year is doubled by the removal of the price cap for energy prices, as well as other issues facing a winter home.

She added: "Children, the elderly and disabled are statistically more likely to be affected by the cold – I fear we will see people dying in their own homes this year because they simply can’t afford to keep warm."

Anyone that wants to help can bring any of the items mentioned above, or purchase an item necessary for the stall via the OsWarm Amazon wishlist.

Donations of items for distribution will only be accepted at the stall for use that day.

Collections are not available and they have limited storage.
