PLANS to rebuild exiting power lines in Oswestry by SP Energy Networks will go ahead, but work will be asked to respect nearby infrastructure belonging to another utility company.

The plans to rebuild an existing 33KV single circuit overhead line at the electricity substation, between Ascot Road and Whittington Road, were put to Shropshire Council in the summer and were given the go ahead this week.

According to an application form by SP Energy, the work will be to replace an overhead line.

It said: "The pole to support this line will be single or 'H' type poles with supporting stays where required.

"The 'H' poles and stays are used generally to support changes in the direction of the overhead line.

The existing overhead line will be dismantled and removed during the construction and completion of the new line. This is shown as a green line on or in very close proximity to the proposed new line (on maps).

"The proposed overhead line replaces the existing overhead line and is built on or in close proximity to the existing line where practicably possible in order to reduce the visual impact and any tree cutting."

The application invited comments from United Utilities which is urging the energy network to respect a nearby underground aqueduct and said to ensure the two companies work together.

In a letter to Shropshire Council, the company said: "United Utilities has no specific comments to make on the above proposal; however wishes to make the applicant aware of the existing significant water infrastructure, the Vyrnwy Aqueduct, which lies within close proximity to the proposals.

"It is the applicant's responsibility to demonstrate the exact relationship between United Utilities' assets and the proposed development.

"Developers should investigate the existence and the precise location of water and wastewater pipelines as soon as possible as this could significantly impact the preferred site layout and/or diversion of the asset(s) may be required.

"Where United Utilities’ assets cross the proposed red line boundary, developers must contact our Developer Services team prior to commencing any works on site, including trial holes, groundworks or demolition.

"Any construction activities in the vicinity of United Utilities’ assets must comply with national building and construction standards and where applicable, our ‘Standard Conditions for Works Adjacent to Pipelines’.

"This includes United Utilities’ assets which may be located outside the applicant’s red line boundary."
