A STUDENT from outside Oswestry is celebrating after she picked up an award to salute her five A* A-Levels in 2023.

Former Moreton Hall head girl Tarryn Stanhope picked up ‘Outstanding Student’ award in the British Education Awards 2024 which celebrates the achievements of individual students on a national platform.

In November, an out of the blue email informed Tarryn, now in her first year of an Economics degree at Durham University, that she had been shortlisted to represent the North West, North East, Humberside & Yorkshire and West Midlands in the outstanding A-Level achievement category.

She admitted she was left in shock at the news but paid tribute to the Weston Rhyn-based school.

She said: “I owe so much of my academic and extracurricular success to Moreton.

“If it weren't for the holistic, enthusiastic and unordinary education I received at school, I don't think I ever would have immersed myself into such a wide array of activities.

“And it's not only because so many of the opportunities given to me were only available uniquely at Moreton.

“It is largely because of the sense of community and support that the school fostered that made me believe I had to give back in some way.

“And still today, I am eternally grateful to the staff at Moreton for everything they did for me, a debt I will hold for the entirety of my life.

“It was an absolute honour to represent Moreton Hall at the BEA Awards.”

Tarryn picked up A* in Economics, Maths, Business and English A Levels, as well as in her Extended Project Qualification, having arrived at Moreton Hall in Year 9 aged 13 and soon immersed herself in the school’s way of life.

Moreton Hall principal Michael Brewer admitted he was delighted to hear that his former head girl had been recognised for her ‘amazing achievements’.

He added: “Moreton Hall is exceptionally proud of Tarryn's achievement.

“Winning a British Education Award is a wonderful accomplishment and all that have known Tarryn during her time at school will know this is both exceptional and typical.

“Like generations of Moreton girls before her, Tarryn has left school equipped to write her own incredible story, and this recognition is a fitting next chapter.”
