Chirk AAA Football Club will be managed by Lawrence Wilson next season.

Wilson is a UEFA B Licence coach who is a current UEFA A candidate and has been backed to succeed at Holyhead Road.

A club statement read: “He is a young, enthusiastic coach who has previous managerial experience at Wem Town, Llanfair United and Llanidloes Town. He has also managed both TNS and Wem Town Ladies teams.

“Lawrence is a focused individual with some forward thinking coaching methods which we feel make him a perfect fit for our club. We look forward to working with him in an attempt to bounce straight back to Cymru North.”

Wilson was relishing being back in management having assisted predecessor Gary Jones since December.

Wilson said: “I am delighted to be back in a managers seat, I know the club pretty well as Gary asked me to come in as his assistant in December to see if I could find the enjoyment again and it took a while but I started to get the buzz back again. I think also helped was getting on my UEFA A license.

“Last season was tough unfortunately getting relegated but I feel we got some good results together at the end and the lads never gave up at all they are a great group.

“But I feel next season will be just as tough with the teams in the league but me as always up the for challenge. I’ll make sure we are ready to try and get back to tier two as soon as possible.

"I want to thank the Chirk AAA committee for putting their faith in me for this season, we shall see what the seasons brings.”

Meanwhile the club will also be running an under 17 side in the newly formed NEWFA U17 league.

This is monumental step for the club as its look to give the younger players of Chirk a pathway into senior football.

So Chirk will go into the 2024/2025 season with three teams, First Team in Tier 3 Ardal North, Reserves in NEWFA Reserve League and U17’s in the NEWFA U17 League.
