A FOOTPATH around the top of Oswestry’s cemetery has been renovated thanks to the support of numerous local people and groups.
Funds were raised to help pay for the work, which was carried out by Shropshire Council’s Rights of Way team.
The fundraising initiative, Banish the Mud, was launched two years ago in response to the ‘dire’ conditions along the path during the winter months.

Sarah Gibson, a local resident who organised the fundraiser, thanked everyone who contributed to the fundraiser and praised the work that was carried out.
“It was a quagmire,” she said.
“Walking the path was at times a very slippery experience and dogs would return from their walks covered in mud.
“Many people avoided the path during the winter as it was in such a state.
“An excellent job has now been done, with the path widened and raised, using a thick layer of finely ground stone and chippings.
“Even after recent torrential rain, it is still a firm surface.
“As part of Wat’s Dyke Way, it is a popular route which can now be enjoyed year-round.
“Oswestry Ramblers contributed £150 and the Rotary Club of Oswestry Cambrian donated £100 to the project, all with generous donations from many individuals.”
