AN OSWESTRY woman is on track to have tackled 30 mountains in a year, before her 30th birthday this September.

Rebecca Coatsworth was born in the Oswestry area and grew up in North Shropshire before moving to Witney, Oxfordshire, where she lives and works for a global Christian organisation, Open Doors.

The 29-year-old started her challenge last year in aid of her work place, by aiming to climb 30 mountains before her birthday.

She said: “With this fairly significant milestone fast approaching, I was inspired last year by Adrian, an Open Doors supporter who did 60 fundraising activities to celebrate turning 60.

“I wanted to do something around the number 30 – and decided to put my fitness and perseverance to the test.”

Rebecca started with Snowdon on September 10, 2022, and is hoping to finish with Ben Nevis on September 10 this year.

She has completed 26 mountains so far, with the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge this Saturday (September 2) to get her to 29.

She covered mountains across Snowdonia, the Brecon Beacons, Scotland and the Lake District.

“I've climbed with friends, family, colleagues and strangers” Rebecca added.

Open Doors is a global organisation which serves Christians facing the most extreme persecution around the world.

They work in over 70 countries and help by smuggling Bibles, providing emergency relief aid and training to help the church stay strong in the face of torment.

Rebecca explained why she chose Open Doors: “The organisation – and, more importantly, the persecuted Christians they serve – has been on my heart and absolutely central to my life for nearly five years.

“As I've read, written, and shared the stories of Christians around the world who are daring to follow Jesus no matter the cost, I've been stretched and challenged and inspired.

“I want to help Christians like Pastor Andrew in Nigeria, who encouraged his church to return and rebuild after their village was attacked and burnt to the ground.”

The donations will go directly to supporting persecuted Christians, as Rebecca is funding all of her own expenses for this adventure.
