A VICTORIAN Open Day will take place later today (Wednesday, August 9) at Chirk Parish Hall to commemorate the 175th anniversary of the opening of the Chester to Shrewsbury rail line.

The event will run from 11am to 3.30pm and promises a day of excitement and enjoyment during the summer holidays.

The historic Chester to Shrewsbury rail line was officially inaugurated on August 1, 1848, with the inauguration of Chester Station.

This significant milestone opened up a plethora of travel possibilities to a wide range of destinations, leading to widespread acclaim.

The rail line traverses through prominent train stations including Chester, Wrexham, Ruabon, Chirk, Gobowen, and Shrewsbury.

Attendees of the Open Day will be transported back to the Victorian era with a range of engaging activities.

A spokesperson from Three Counties Connected, organiser of the event, said: “Visitors to the open day can experience the delights of the Victorian era, with ‘The Amazeology Show’, Victorian dressing up activities, children’s workshops, history displays, Victorian photo booth, the chance to meet famous Victorian Railway Engineer Thomas Brassey and much more.”

History displays and a Victorian photo booth will provide an interactive and educational experience.

Moreover, visitors will have the unique opportunity to meet Thomas Brassey, the famous Victorian Railway Engineer.

While enjoying the festivities, attendees can also savour refreshments available on-site.

All donations received during the event will be contributed to the Chirk Community Food Cupboard, supporting a local charitable cause.
