A LITTLE piece of Oswestry's history has been restored after nearly 60 years.

Cambrian Heritage Railways has unveiled the refurbished Oswestry Station sign which has been returned to the building in the town centre after 57 years.

The sign was saved when the station closed down in 1966 and has been displayed in the neighbouring museum ever since.

CHR chairman Rob Williams said the sign has returned ‘to where is belongs’.

He added: “We are thrilled to see the Oswestry station sign returned to where it belongs.

“Returning the sign to its rightful place is not just a nostalgic statement, but a practical need.

“It will once again help direct rail users to the booking hall as part of our Oswestry to Weston wharf heritage service.”

In a post on Twitter, Cambrian Heritage Railways further explained that the sign would have historically been placed outside of the canopy, but now this subjects it to the UK weather.
