OSWESTRY town Mayor and the Mayoress are planning to compete in a 13 miles walk to raise money for the Mayoral Charity supporting mental health and well-being.

Mayor, Jay Moore, and his partner Poppy King, are set to embark on the journey, walking around Oswald's trail, together with Oswestry's Men Walking and Talking, and respectively Wild Women Shropshire and North Wales.

The walks will take place on different dates, the Mayoress will go first on Sunday, March 26, while Mr Moore will complete the walk on Saturday, April 8.

The Mayor explained that this was his partner's idea and that they hope to finish the walks in four to five hours.

He said: "Poppy wanted to raise money for charity, and she thought of this, and to keep it local she thought of the Oswald's trail.

"Everyone is welcome to join, we realise that on the poster it looks like a 'boys team' 'girls team' but if people can't make one date they can always go to the other one.

OTHER NEWS:

"The trail also goes through town, which makes it more accesible, so we welcome people to join us and leave at any point."

His Mayoral Charity and the Owestry's Men Walking and Talking, will split the proceedings from the walk, to reach both under 18s and adults.

Councillor Moore, who will be mayor until May 2023, is fundraising for mental health and wellbeing charities across his year.

Cllr Moore says he has long championed mental health for young people, and he aims to raise more than £1,000 for his Mayoral Charity supporting mental health and well-being, for under 18s.

He also has set up a Just Giving page , which aims to raise more funds for mental health charities.

On the page, Mr Moore, said: "As we all know, mental health and wellbeing is a massive issue. As a youth worker and teacher I have seen first hand the impact it has on our young people.

"An overwhelmed NHS and CAMHS system is simply unable to cater to the sheer volume of young people needing help.
