TWO people had to be rescued by the emergency services on Monday night after falling down a 30 foot embankment.

Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) received a call at 10.05pm last night, Monday, February 20, reporting an incident had taken place on Chirk Road in Chirk Bank.

Three fire appliances mobilised from Oswestry and Telford Central were at the scene, along with an operations officer.

A spokesperson from SFRS said: "Two casualties fallen down a 30 feet embankment.

"Both casualties fully extricated with help from fire service personnel using rope rescue and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team and are now in care of ambulance service."

Crews used the line rescue,mud/rescue paths, small gear and a spinal board to deal with the incident.

Also at the scene of the incident were two crews from the West Midlands Ambulance Services: "On arrival, crews discovered two male patients.

"One man was treated by ambulance staff for potentially serious injuries before being taken to Royal Stoke Hospital for further treatment.

"The second man was treated by medics for injuries not thought to be serious before being taken to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment."

A stop message confirming no further assistance was needed was sent to SFRS control at 12.05am, Tuesday, February 21.
