Morda Table Tennis Club held its first all Junior Championships earlier this month.

In the open singles, the two seeded players reached the final after a spirited performance by Reece Wills to take on the more experienced league players in the earlier round.

The final between Austin Hibbert and Matei Balasa saw number one seed Austin Hibbert take a close first set 11-8.

Balasa then took an early lead in the second set and looked close to taking it only for Hibbert to fight back and win 11-9.

The third set was no different and Balasa pushed all the way, but eventually went down 11-9 in an excellent contest.

In the all handicap event, matches were played over two sets, with an added handicap.

In the initial round Hristo Kasabov had a 51 – 40 win over Ethan Chavez and Chelsea Chavez outpointed Reece Wills 44-33.

In the semi-finals Austin Hibbert found himself up against Matei Balasa who he had beaten in the open singles.

Balasa took the first set 11-10 and Hibbert the second 7-11with Balasa going through to the final.

In the other semi-final Chelsea Chavez overcame a seven handicap to win by one point 44-43 over Hristo Kasabov.

In the final Chavez had a 12 point handicap over Balasa who won the first set but Chavez pulled back well in the second set to only lose by four with the final win by one point to Balasa 32-31.

The non-league junior event saw matches more go to form, with no handicaps.

Chelsea Chavez was drawn against younger brother Ethan and won 11-4, 11-3.

In the other semi-final a grand tussle saw Hristo Kasabov taking the first set 13-11 only for Reece Wills to make a 12-10 comeback in the second set and winning the third set 11-9.

This set up a close final between Chavez and Wills with the later prevailing 14-12, 11-9.

The final competition of the night was the junior non-league handicap.

In the preliminary round it was Chelsea Chavez against Reece Wills who won 43-39.

Having removed sister Chelsea, Wills then went on to beat brother Ethan Chavez 45-37 to reach the final.

In the other half of the draw, Olivier Kielan outpointed Hristo Kasabov 48-41 and won the final against Wills 31-21.
