A MAN has been jailed after he was caught with a weapon in Oswestry.

The 33-year-old was stopped and searched in the town on Sunday and police found a lock knife on him.

Officers from Oswestry's Safer Neighbourhoods Team (SNT) took to social media to confirm he had been sentenced to 24 weeks.

It comes as West Mercia Police takes part in the nationwide Operation Sceptre, which aims to tackle knife crime across the country.

As part of the efforts an amnesty bin is available at Oswestry Police Station's front desk today (Wednesday, May 18).
