A CHIRK nursery has received a prestigious award from the Welsh Government in recognition of its efforts to put the wellbeing of children and staff at their top list of priorities.

Manfords’ Little Lambs nursery in Castle Road, has been honoured with the Healthy and Sustainable Pre-School Scheme National Award.

This program operates throughout Wales and is overseen by Public Health Wales and supported locally by the Wrexham County Borough Council’s Healthy Schools Team.

This recognition reflects the nursery's unwavering commitment to maintaining the well-being of both children and staff.

Manfords Little Lambs manager, Vicki Mitchell, said: “We have learnt a lot from the healthy pre-school team and would like to thank them for all their support throughout the scheme. 

“We know we have a great team here, that work very hard to give all of our children the best opportunities, this award feels like acknowledgment of this”

By achieving the award the nursery has successfully demonstrated that they have implemented actions that have covered a wide range of health issues including, Nutrition and Oral Health, Physical Activity/Active Play, Mental and Emotional Health, Wellbeing and Relationships, Environment, Safety, Hygiene and Workplace Health and Wellbeing.

In addition to a focus on these health areas, the nursery has also earned the 'Tiny Tums Award' for the quality of food served, and it is involved in the Designed to Smile programme, an oral health care initiative.

Helen Jones, Healthy pre schools officer for Wrexham County Borough Council, said: “Manford’s’ Little Lambs has shown that the general health and well-being of children and staff is at the forefront of the setting.

“They embrace all initiatives that can help to influence practice in the setting and are an active part of the local community, helping to make the experience for staff and children extra special.

“I am sure they will continue to promote a healthy and happy environment for the children that pass through their care in the future.”

In addition they provide childcare before and after school and in the holidays for older pupils too.

They are available all year round but they do close for Christmas and Bank Holidays.
