Oswestry Eagles 79, Ramsey 5

OSWESTRY routed Isle of Man side Ramsey to keep themselves second in the league behind Manchester Medics.

The Eagles now trail the Medics by just seven points with three games remaining this season.

Ramsey shocked the hosts when their centre blasted through to score the first try of the game to give them a 5-3 lead with 10 minutes on the clock.

Brought to life by this early setback, the Eagles soon picked up the pace on a sticky pitch, man of the match Ivor Hughes easily outpacing the Ramsey winger to score in the corner.

Outstanding full-back Luca Youen-Owens always looked dangerous and he bounced off two tackles to score, before stalwart clubman Chris Heskey smuggled the ball over the line to take the score to the 20 mark.

Centre, Aiden Grienola showed superb skill from quick ruck ball, seeing the space and sidestepping through the opposition to give the home side a 25-5 half time lead and a bonus point for four tries scored.

Gaz Hughes, was keen to get on the scoresheet and his determined running saw him outpace the defence to notch up another score early in the second half.

A shell-shocked Ramsey looked like they wanted to be back on the flight home as they were now trotting from behind the posts to the halfway line with alarming frequency.

Youen-Owens continuously ran the defence ragged and caused mayhem time and again before he set up winger, James Anderson after a deft exchange of passes before crossing for another score.

Colt, Dan Morgan then came on as a substitute and scored with his first touch of the ball after another flowing move.

Ivor Hughes then relived his old football days with Ellesmere Rangers as he dribbled a loose ball over the line from 40 metres out.

Hamish Fuller, now in full swing, scored the Eagles’ tenth after a deft kick through by Fin Grogan.

The match was still not finished but Ramsey were out for the count. Luke Hassel and James Anderson scored the 11th and 12th home tries to complete the demolition job.

n On Saturday, the Eagles make the journey to the Isle of Man, where they will take on Vagabonds. Kick-off is at 3pm.
