Northern Division South Lancs/Cheshire Division TwoOswestry 1sts 23, Moore 1sts 30 THE Eagles came crashing back to earth after last week’s emphatic 66-0 home victory, after they were beaten at home by Moore. The visitors began the match on the front foot and showed their attacking instincts immediately when they crossed for a try following a scrum close to the Eagles’ five metre line. Moore’s attacking onslaught continued when a superb clearance from their number 9 forced the home side deep into their own territory. Sustained and ferocious pressure from Moore resulted in another converted try which gave them a 14-0 lead. Oswestry captain Andy Smith rallied his men and called for improvement and Jamie Luckett duly obliged when he started a fluid passing move which allowed Nick Howland to sprint down the wing and cross the try line to reduce arrears to 14-5. Any hopes of a dramatic Eagles comeback were dashed soon afterwards when Moore crossed for their third converted try to open up a commanding 16-point lead. Oswestry rallied and began to use the strength and guile of their pack to probe and push through the Moore defence. Some fine rucking by Oswestry allowed Zac Baldwin to dive over the line for a great try, which again went unconverted to leave the score at 21-10 at half-time.A Moore penalty early in the second half extended their lead, before Oswestry responded with their third try of the game as Baldwin crossed the whitewash again to make it 24-15. Kickers from both sides dispatched a penalty apiece, before Oswestry earned their fourth try when Jonny Lee crossed to score and bring his side within four points of Moore. It was the visitors who had the final say, however, as they scored the game’s decisive try and kicked the conversion to win 30-23. Oswestry’s next opponents are Ashton-on-Mersey at home on Saturday, April 11.
