Frankton 84 all out lost to Newport 85-9 by one wicket
FRANKTON played their part in a thriller before falling to a one wicket defeat at Newport in the Henshalls Shropshire Premier League.
The visitors opened the batting and struggled for runs as Jordan Parry (16), Dilum Sudeera (14), Scott Hale (13), Tom Wilkie (10) and Tom Welti (14) guided their side to 84 to defend.
Shabbir Khan (5-10) and Johar Ahmed (3-19) proved the pick of the home attack.
Sudeera (7-18) led Frankton's reply with support from Richard Parry-Jones (2-23) but Paul Furniss (20), Tom Newman (14), Saqib Akbar (11) and Clive Van Rensburg (18no) guided Newport to a one wicket win.
Frankton IIs enjoyed better fortune in a four wicket win at home to Newport IIs in division three.
Robert Furniss (48) and Iain Anderson (50) top scored as Newport posted 162-8 to defend with Felix Jebb (2-23), Troy Newton (2-16) and Grant McKay (2-30) the pick of the home attack.
Ambrose Mochan (28) and Jack Hutchinson (22) laid foundations in reply before Dave Powell (28no) and James Wigley (18no) guided Frankton to 164-6 despite the best efforts of Lewis Davies (3-44).
