WOMEN'S football is on the rise.
This week the BBC announced it will show the Women's Super League on network free-to-air TV for the first time in a landmark three-year broadcast deal.
From next season, WSL games will be shown live across the BBC and Sky in the deal worth £7m-£8m per season.
However it was not always so and for many years the women's game struggled to take a foothold in Britain.
That is not to say matches were not played.
The Oswestry Advertizer has found records of a game being played in St Martins between two women's sides in 1969.
However we do not know the names of the teams pictured or of the match was a one off.
Do you recognise yourself or anyone in the pictures?
