Connah's Quay Nomads 2 TNS 0

TWO faces from the past returned to haunt TNS whose unbeaten JD Cymru Premier record came to an end at Connah's Quay Nomads tonight.

The defending champions went into the game in hot pursuit of the table topping Saints.

TNS started brightly with Dean Ebbe and Leo Smith testing goalkeeper Oliver Byrne

While the Nomads kept the Saints rearguard on its toes with ex-TNS striker Mike Wilde his usual industrial self it was the Oswestry side who continued to press with Louis Robles denied by Byrne on 24 minutes.

Wilde handed the Saints a reminder of his threat when he looked to have broke the deadlock on half an hour only for his effort to be ruled out for handball.

The remainder of the first-half saw the match descend into a midfield scrap with neither side able to get a grip of the ball on a testing home surface.

The second-half saw the Nomads come out of the blocks and break the deadlock on the hour.

Former TNS star Aeron Edwards headed home from close range after meeting Aron Williams' right wing cross on the far post.

Five minutes later another cross from Williams found Wilde whose headed effort came back off the post and the head of goalkeeper Paul Harrison as the Nomads doubled their lead.

TNS manager Scott Ruscoe rang the changes with Ben Clark, Adrian Cieslewicz and Greg Draper thrown into the fray in an attempt to get back into the game.

However it was the Nomads who came closest to extending their lead with Williams curling wide with 10 minutes remaining.

Five minutes later Cieslewicz released Draper who forced Byrne into action but TNS could find no route back into the game as the Nomads held firm to go level at the top of the table with the defeated Saints.
