Llanidloes 168-5 beat Newtown IIs 163-7 by five runs
DANIEL Lewis played a key role as Llanidloes celebrated a thrilling five run derby win at Newtown IIs.
Adrian Foulkes was run out by Brandon Baynham for six to bring Lewis alongside Llanidloes captain Andrew Jones for the second wicket.
The pair laid the foundations before the skipper fell to Jonathon Davies (1-23) for 29.
Lewis Swallow (14) and Dave Moody (14) provided middle order support before departing to Matt Humphreys(2-32) and Rowan Swanson (1-33) but could not dislodge Lewis (68no) who guided Llanidloes to 168-5 to defend.
Newtown began their reply brightly only for Iwan Smout to be caught by Lewis off Ryan Jones for 11.
Jones promptly snared Ralp Barraclough LBW for a duck before Humphreys was caught by Ethan Owen off Harry Turner.
Surviving opener Ian Hancocks was joined by Sion Jerman in a 61 run fourth wicket stand before the latter fell to Foulkes for 15.
Hancocks was finally caught by Lewis off Turner for a top scoring 46 to leave Town on 116-5
Turner maintained the pressure to ensure the best efforts of captain Richard Smout (23no) could not prevent the home side falling short with a closing total of 163-7
