Members at Llanymynech Golf Club got into the Christmas spirit as they hosted a festive themed competition.

The Ladies’ Christmas Open has been held at the club for a number of years, attracting female golfers from across the region to join in with the festivities.

Those taking part took to the course for the 14-hole team competition last Thursday on what was a cold but dry morning.

Dressed in their finest festive outfits, participants were sent on their way around the course after a shotgun start.

After the golf had been played, winners were announced along with a presentation for best dressed participants at the clubhouse.

Assistant PGA professional at the club, Tom Farquharson, said: “This is an annual event at the club which is just a bit of light-hearted fun for the members to enjoy as they look forward to the festive season.

“It’s very well supported, and everyone seems to really enjoy it – it’s a fun day for all involved.

“The members have been excellent supporting events through the year and this one is no different – they’ve done very well considering how cold the weather has been.

“It’s a nice opportunity for everyone to get together before Christmas and have a laugh.”

Janice Stanistreet, a member at the club, added: “It is traditional that the teams dress up in Christmas themed costumes - so it is not uncommon to see fairies, Father Christmases, turkeys and other strange characters on the course.

“The competition is popular with the ladies from our local golf clubs such as Oswestry, Henlle and Mile End and we welcome their support.”
