Corwen 1

Chirk AAA 1

Chirk travelled to play one of the league’s best performing sides in Bala and came close to leaving with a win.

The Colliers went 1-0 up in the first half as they battled for three points with a side that has lost just once and conceded only five goals all season.

However, a second half goal for the hosts meant they were able to avoid what would have been their second loss of the season.

The visitors came close early on when Joe Evans went through on goal before firing his attempt over the crossbar.

Evans had the ball in the net shortly afterwards, however it was disallowed for a foul on the keeper.

Chirk opened the scoring five minutes before the break when Louie Middlehurst finished off a quick passing move.

The visitors kept their one-goal lead until just after an hour of play when Corwen made it 1-1.

Dominic Doherty met the ball after it was cleared by the Chirk defence, before curling a shot into the far corner for his first goal for Corwen. The Colliers had to soak up some pressure as the final whistle approached, with two chances for Joe Williams coming to nothing.

The score remained 1-1 for the rest of the afternoon and the sides shared the points.

Chirk now sit five points off league leaders Queens Park having played two games fewer.

They are next in action when they face Saltney Town on Saturday.
