Henlle Park Golf Club hosted its annual Pink Day earlier this month.

Participants went to great lengths to ensure the day went ahead, as they braved the miserable weather conditions brought to the region by Storm Callum.

The weather didn’t dampen the spirits of those taking part, with more than 50 members dressing in pink and took to the course to raise money for a leading breast cancer research charity.

Henlle Park’s Pink Day has raised funds for Breast Cancer Now for more than five years through their annual event.

Organised by club members Viv Davies and Doreen Nicol, this time around the event helped to raise a total of more than £1,400.

Viv said: “The event is a good way for people to come along to have a fun day of golf while raising money for a good cause.

“The members taking part on the day all had to wear pink and gave donations. We also raised money with the help of a cake sale and tombola on the day.

“Prior to the Pink Day, we held a fashion show in Weston Rhyn which also helped us towards our total of £1414.72.”

Viv added that she was pleased to see so many people turn up considering the bad weather that forced the course to close temporarily just hours before the event got underway.

She said: “There were a variety of scores and standards of golf played on the day which was mainly down to the heavy winds and rain.

“The course was closed early in the morning around 8am for a bit of time after parts had become flooded.

“Luckily it drained, and we were able to get out and start playing a little later in the morning, but as soon as we took to the course the rain started coming down on the course again.

“It’s safe to say everyone got very wet but after five holes it cleared until very late in the day when we were finishing up the games.”

Winners were announced for the Mixed, Men’s and Ladies’ competitions on the day, along with best dressed Pink Lady and Pink Man.

Viv added: “We’re extremely grateful to everyone who donated and everyone who came out and braved the stormy weather to create what was a great event.

“We’ve been running this event for more some time now, raising money for the same charity each time.

“Having had breast cancer myself, it is a charity that is close to home, so it is nice to be able to raise money for them.

“I think we would’ve had even more people taking part this year had there not been such bad weather – the interest seems to be growing each time.

“I’d like to thank Doreen for her help and everyone at the club who have helped in organising the day.”
