Oswestry Tennis Club’s fourth team travelled to Lilleshall to play their fourth fixture of the season.

The established first pair of David Bass and Emily Lowe took on the opposing first pair where they achieved a straight sets win.

The second pair of Nick Elliott and Carol Slater, who had stepped in to fill the void because of player unavailability, went down in straight sets 2-6, 3-6.

In the reverse rubbers Bass and Lowe found themselves in a real scrap against the Lilleshall second pair with games going with serve to a first set tie break. This was a tense affair and it took some steely nerves for the Oswestry pair to finally nail it. They then ran away with the second set 6-2.

Elliott and Slater played better in their second rubber but again came up short going down in straight set 1-6 and although taking an early lead in the second set to lead 3-1 they were pegged back with some steady play from their opposition before going down 4-6.

The fifth team travelled to Hollies where they secured their third victory of the season where they bagged all four points.

In the reverse round rubbers the first pair of Matt Campbell and Millie Parsons-Hann continued to impress with a straight sets win 6-1, 6-2. The second pair of Richard Parsons-Hann partnered by Amanda Coxhead, stepping in for the unavailable Rosemary Bennett, soon got used to each other’s game and they flew through the first set without dropping a game 6-0 and then only dropped one in the second set 6-1.

In the reverse rubbers Campbell and Parsons-Hann again didn’t give their opposition anything to hand their hat on winning 6-2, 6-1 whilst Parsons-Hann and Coxhead although finding their opposition tougher still prevailed 6-4, 7-6. With three wins and a draw the team are currently sitting in top spot in their group.
