NEWTOWN and TNS begin their campaigns with testing first round trips in theWord Cup over the next few days

The Robins travel to Bangor City on Saturday (2.30pm) in the tie of the round, while TNS make the trip to Huws Gray Alliance side Porthmadog on Tuesday.

Newtown ended their pre-season with a 7-0 hammering of Spar Mid Wales League One side Llanfair United in midweek and travel with a full squad, with up to eight players looking to make their competitive debuts.

Goalkeeper Dave Jones is joined by defensive duo Steff Edwards and Ashley Wells, midfielders David Easthope, Matty Owen and Jamie Price and forwards Jason Oswell and Alex Hughes in pressing for a start.

“We have had a good pre-season and strengthened across the pitch while also bringing in more goals,” said manager Chris Hughes. “Bangor is always a tough place to go but we are looking forward to it.”

Meanwhile teenage goalkeeper Jack Perry also underlined his potential with a solid display in midweek.

The New Saints travel to Porthmadog on Tuesday (7.30pm) with coach Carl Darlington warning his side not to underestimate the Gwynedd side.

“They are a decent side with ambitions to get back into the Welsh Premier and it will be far from a foregone conclusion,” said Darlington. “We have prepared for the game and will not be taking them lightly.

“The club wants to progress in every competition and theWord Cup is no different and of course we want a winning start to the season.”

Winger Jamie Mullan is the only absentee due to his long term injury but the Saints travel as overwhelming favourites.
