JOHN McKenna’s injury-time winner kept alive TNS’ hopes of snatching the Welsh Premier silverware.

Just two months ago the young midfielder was on the verge of finishing the season on loan at Newtown.

However McKenna underlined his worth with a last gasp winner to maintain his side’s championship challenge.

Over 96 minutes had been played when Craig Williams’ left wing cross fell kindly for McKenna who lashed home.

Chances were sparse for the home side, with Carlos Caston heading over on 28 minutes, while the Spaniard was also denied by goalkeeper Paul Harrison on half-time.

TNS became more dominant after the break with Scott Ruscoe’s free-kick headed wide by Alex Darlington.

Ruscoe continued to pull the strings in midfield with his crossfield ball releasing Craig Jones, who cut inside before firing over.

Neath goalkeeper Anthony Williams looked to have done enough to secure a point with saves to deny Darlington and Ruscoe.

Steve Evans’ header was also tipped away by the veteran former Wrexham goalkeeper before he was finally beaten.

McKenna had only been on the field a few minutes, but was on hand to keep their title bid on the burner.
