Oswestry Olympians Athletics Club have been crowned Shropshire Young Athletes’ under 17 boys Cross Country League champions.

The border club beat five teams to top their table while club members were delighted to finish third just two points behind Telford AC, with Shrewsbury AC winners in the overall competition.

The Oswestry girls ended second in their category and the boys finished third.

The league involves athletes from Concord College, Maldwyn Harriers, Oswestry Olympians, Shrewsbury AC, Shrewsbury School, Telford AC, Telford Tri, Wenlock Olympians and Wrekin Harriers.

The four venues this year were Abraham Darby School hosted by Telford AC, Packwood Haugh hosted by Shrewsbury AC, William Brookes School hosted by Wenlock Olympians with the final event hosted by Oswestry Olympians at Oswestry School.

Oswestry Olympians values the efforts of all of its members with over 40 competing in one or more of the races.

Josh Martin, Oliver Coburn, Elliot O’Connor and Ben Rothera won gold in their age category while many others won medals by securing valuable points for their teams.

The boys' under 11s ended third and the under 13's ended fourth while the under 15s ended second while the girls' under 11s team ended third with the under 13s ending second and the 15th ended third.

Oswestry did not have an under 17 girls’ team but team coaches were pleased to see Seren Roberts return from illness to secure third in the final race after missing the previous three.

Several Oswestry Olympian juniors and adults will be competing in the Shropshire County Championships to be held at Attingham Park in Shrewsbury on Saturday, January 7.
