PLANS to put in a lean-to as well as making alterations to a barn for a swim-spa on a property outside Oswestry have been re-submitted to Shropshire Council.

The plans, for The Fields Barn in Maesbury Marsh, were sent to Shropshire Council on Wednesday, August 3 after an original planning application was rejected earlier this year.

According to a planning and access statement on behalf of the applicants, the plans for the 19th century barn range are to help improve its self-heating and it's modernise its look.

It said: "While a small lean-to was erected for practicality, the applicants would very much like to take the opportunity to replace it with something that is both more practical and more aesthetically appropriate for a former agricultural building.

"On top of this, it would be an enormous enhancement if some form of simple covered lean-to could be extended across further – thus providing a much needed plant room for a thermal storage vessel.

"To expand on the former, a proper boot room or ‘mud locker’ is very much an intrinsic part of country life and whilst every effort was made in the original conversion to provide the required facilities and living accommodation, a utility or boot room was not allowed for.

"Not only does such a structure provide a practical place for washing and cleaning – but also for the housing of dogs and sodden

boots/clothing.

"The final practical advantage is that of a draught lobby, thus preventing the driving winds from the west entering the kitchen itself.

"It should also be noted that in light of the current rise in energy prices and encouragement to seek alternative energy sources and renewable alternatives, it is their intention to install a large thermal store in the new (enlarged) utility room, allowing them to further harness the potential of their current heating system."

The statement added that the swim-spa would be for the applicants to manage an ongoing health condition.
