THE Oswestry and border football community is mourning the loss of the late and great Merv Bromley.

Mr Bromley passed away yesterday (Thursday) following a lifetime of dedication to the game and in particular his beloved Oswestry Boys and Girls Club.

Mr Bromley was among the founders of the club in 1977 and served as president until his sad passing.

A statement on the club's Facebook page confirmed the sad news.

The statement read: "Many of you will have known Merv personally, or will know of him through football and you will all agree he was a true gent, young at heart, inspirational and has left a legacy that is ‘Oswestry Boys Girls Club’.

"On behalf of the club I would like to extend our sincere condolences to his family, Merv will be greatly missed by many generations.

"He will always be at the heart of our club and we will always be truly grateful for the amazing club that he created."
