Oswestry 81

OSWESTRY are Midlands Four West North champions after an 81 point annihilation of Essington on Saturday.

Oswestry had a dream start and led within two minutes Dec Betteley found Connor Bishop who ran in to score the first try. Iwan Ellis converted as the Eagles established an early lead.

Oswestry found themselves camped in the home sides half and captain Gaz Ellis was quick to act to score the second Oswestry try with brother Iwan converting.

Jacob Jones went on a glorious run before releasing Luke Beckett to score the third try with Ellis converting to establish a 21 point lead.

Bishop secured the bonus point and championship title with his side's fourth try of the day.

The Oswestry defence stood strong and Luke Hassell charged through the defence to score the fifth try after 31 minutes and five minutes later Beckett released Fletcher Owen-Youens who showed his pace to run in the sixth try.

Ellis converted the try as the floodgates opened before the break.

Hassell crossed for his second of the day while Bishop added a further two tries to his tally with Ellis' extras seeing the Shropshire side lead 57-0 at the break.

The hosts made some changes at half-time and came out with a different attitude but Oswestry were ruthless in defence.

After nearly 10 minutes of pressure Beckett was able to break out and score the 10th try.

Beckett soon added another try, converted by Iwan Ellis as the Eagles looked to tot up a cricket score.

Beckett crossed twice more with Ellis adding the extras as the Eagles ended resounding victors and clinch the title with three matches remaining.

Next week Oswestry are at home to Market Drayton who are in second place but with no hope of catching the Eagles who can now look ahead to a higher grade of competition next season.
