OSWESTRY Olympians are the queens of north Wales after its women's team were crowned champions of the regional cross country championships.

The team secured the title at the final event of the season in Wrexham with Emily Cowper-Coles battling to victory to become the overall ladies series winner.

Florence Roberts ended fourth and Charlotte Hunter took 10th while Lou Woolcock finished 19th, first F40 and also claimed the F40 overall series win.

Viv McConnell finished first F60 with runner-up Susie Hancock consoled by the F60 overall series win.

Team manager Margaret Morris hailed the team while chairman Jacqui Gears and added special thanks to Margaret, saying: "Margaret Morris as always has been there organising us and cheering us on at every race and this year her commitment has been recognized by the NWXC League too. Marg is being awarded the Arthur Bebington Trophy for services to the league."

Oswestry Olympians beat second placed Denbigh and Buckley in third to the ladies title while their masters team also triumphed, taking the series title after seeing off Eryri Harriers and Buckley.

The men's team missed out on a podium place with Tim Tansley ending 23rd to end second in the M45 section.

Ryan Stokes was 39th and the second Olympian home with Ashley Grey ending 62nd.
