AFTER another 18-goal defeat in the 2021/22 season, St Martins have appointed a fourth manager tasked with seeing the remaining fixtures out.

The Saints have suffered a wretched year with numerous heavy defeats in a season that saw its playing squad decimated, and an 18-0 defeat by league leaders and champions elect West Didsbury & Chorlton on Saturday.

That took the side's goal difference to -199 for the year, with three game to play but after Darren Wildman departed last week, reserve team boss Liam Braisdell has stepped up.

A club spokesman said: "St Martins Football Club moved quickly to appoint reserve team manager Liam Braisdell as the club's Interim Manager for the rest of the season.

"Liam joined St Martins FC as under-18 manager in 2020 leading the team to second in the Shropshire Minor League before taking charge of the new reserve side this season.

"Darren Wildman departed on Sunday from the club leaving the committee to act quickly in making an appointment for the last fixtures."

Braisdell promoted some of his charges from the reserves into his first XI and hopes those who stepped up can learn from the experience.

He said: "It’s tough, we’ve had a really hard season.

"We’ve lost nine players this week, a superb manager with lots of experience and it’s been a tough afternoon.

"It was a proud moment to lead this club as the manager – the crowd at the end were fantastic."
