OSWESTRY remain the team to beat in Midlands Four West North following a resounding win at Wednesbury.

The home side started on top but Oswestry weathered the storm and broke after a turnover with Jed Corbett bursting through from 75 metres to cross with Tom Hill converting to give them the early impetus.

However soon Wednesbury were once again applying the pressure with the Shropshire side forced to defend in number.

Oswestry continued to be under the cosh as the home side bombarded their dogged defence and once again were rewarded when James Evans broke to cross with Hill again converting.

Connor Bishop added a third try for Hill to convert soon after and with the home side still reeling the same duo combined for a fourth try and conversion.

At this point the Oswestry supporters expected the floodgates to open but the home side stood strong and went back to their pick and goes making good ground with the Shropshire side losing Nick Clay to the sin bin just before half-time.

Wednesbury capitalised on their numerical advantage by reducing the deficit early in the second-half with a try their pressure deserved.

Wednesbury reduced the arrears with an unconverted try at the start of the second-half but Oswestry were soon back in control with Evans crossing for his second try of the day to keep Oswestry in control.

Wednesbury crossed the line for a second unconverted try to keep themselves in the game but Oswestry settled the outcome late on with Corbett crossing for his second try of the match and Hill converted to complete the scoring.

Meanwhile Oswestry IIs lost 13-12 at Heaton Moor IIs in the NOWIRUL The Right Broker Division Three South while Oswestry Under 17s beat Wirral-based Hoylake 34-0.

Oswestry can now look forward to two consecutive home games with Aston Old Edwardians visiting on Saturday before Yardley visit on February 26,

Oswestry still top the table with a five point advantage and game in hand over second placed Barnton as the season enters its final stretch.
