OSWESTRY remain unbeaten in the Midlands Four West (North) League after a 21-18 win at Trentham.

The Stoke based hosts led with an early penalty and much of the first-half saw the sides battle for dominance in the middle of the park.

Oswestry finally managed to work their way forward and levelled with a penalty from Aidan Lyndsay.

Oswestry kicked off the second-half and applied good pressure with the forwards and backs making headway towards the oppositions try line.

Within a couple of minutes of play Andrew Smith was able to charge over and score the first try of the day and while Lindsay spurned the conversion he added a penalty soon after.

Trenthan soon responded with a try and conversion of their own to reduce the deficit to a solitary point before regaining their lead with a penalty.

Oswestry gathered their thoughts and good play by Luke Beckett and Dan Smart saw them advance where Rory Kershaw was able to run and score their second try.

Lindsay converted but the lead lasted barely five minutes when Trentham regained their lead with an unconverted try to make the score 18-18.

While the score line would have been a fair result as it was difficult to separate the teams the Shropshire side proved to be just about superior with Lyndsay kicking a penalty which would prove decisive.

The last 10 minutes saw lots of drama and Oswestry held out to end the game with another victory.

The man of the match could well have been given to a numbers of players for their efforts with Jack Charmley and Dan Roberts excellent but the award was given to Dan Smart.

Next week Oswestry are at home to Warley where the Oswestry team will be hoping to extend their unbeaten run of results and excellent start to the season.

Meanwhile the club’s second string travel to Linley and Kingsgrove for a cup fixture.
