The two tennis clubs in Oswestry have combined for their first social tournament together.

Oswestry Tennis Club is the club predominantly for adult members, offering regular club nights, internal tournaments and the opportunity for county wide team tournaments, and Oswestry Team Tennis is the club for juniors, offering tennis coaching and play for the youngsters of Oswestry.

The tournament was organised by Gary Edwards, chairman of Oswestry Tennis Club, and Ben Syrett-Judd, coach at Oswestry Team Tennis, and involved 28 players from the two clubs on both courts, each side of the Cae Glas Park.

The participators were mixed together so that the junior members played with an adult member in doubles in two round robin pools over the course of the afternoon.

The event was sponsored by the Oswestry Community Games initiative which is disappointed not to be able to hold its annual Community Games event this year due to the Covid pendemic.

The third placed finishers were junior member Kobe Jones playing with Rose Butler who beat Michael Schlater and Joanna Dalietos.

The final was played between the pairing of Brett Hollywell and Jeanne Craggs and the pairing of Keith Grice and junior member Emillie Hann and was a closely fought affair with some high quality tennis.

The tactical play of Brett and Jeanne proved effective and brought them victory by four games to two and earned them the winning prize.
