A ROTARY club from Oswestry has become the first in Shropshire to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant.

Anna Pugh, president of Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club and Lieutenant Colonel Margaret Durrant took part in the recent signing which commits club members to recognise the particular issues faced by serving and ex-service personnel and their families.

Rotary Clubs can play an important role in community development and by signing the covenant club members aim to ensure that service personnel take part in, and benefit from, that development.

Anna said: “I was proud to sign the covenant on behalf of the Oswestry Cambrian Rotary.

"It will help us to focus upon the particular obstacles and difficulties that armed forces personnel and their families can sometimes face and to provide, both direct and indirect assistance whenever we can.

"Our club already has one ex-military member and we have another interested in joining us in our community work in the town.”

The Oswestry Cambrian Rotary is ready to welcome men, women, or couples aged 18 or over from the community who want to be “people of action”.

They would normally meet at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry on Thursday evenings at 7.45pm but Covid regulations prevents this at the moment.
