A COUPLE are looking forward to retirement after selling their Mid Wales caravan park which has been part of their family for more than 40 years.

Glyn and Marian Roberts ran Pentre Ucha Caravan Park, in Penybontfawr, near Oswestry, which was created by Glyn’s father in the late 1970s.

The couple took on the ownership in 2003, before which it was operated by Glyn’s brother after their father passed away in 1983.

Stewart Smith, a commercial property lawyer at Lanyon Bowdler in Oswestry, said the caravan park had been a labour of love for the Roberts family.

He said: “Glyn’s father created the caravan park in the late 1970s and it has been owned and operated by the Roberts family ever since – initially by Glyn’s father, followed by his brother, and finally by Glyn and Marian since 2003.

“There has always been a close relationship between Mr and Mrs Roberts and the owners of the caravans on the site.

"One family has had a pitch on the site ever since the park first opened and still have a caravan on the site today.

“The site is almost fully occupied and is regarded as one of the premier caravan sites in Mid Wales – it really is in a stunning location.

“Mr and Mrs Roberts decided to sell the site as they were keen to enjoy their well-earned retirement, and it has been taken on by Davies Homes & Leisure Ltd, owned by Steven Davies, who actually lives in Llanfyllin, the same town as Mr and Mrs Roberts.

“It is very much intended that the caravan park will remain as an independent, family-run business, and we would like to wish them every success in the future.”

Pentre Ucha Caravan Park is close to Lake Vyrnwy, Lake Bala and the Berwyn Mountains, and includes 67 static caravan pitches along with a three-bedroom holiday cottage next to the site.

Mr Roberts said it was a difficult decision to sell the park but he was confident that it was in good hands.

“It has been a part of our family for a long time, and we all worked very hard to make it the success it has been,” he said.

“We are very proud of Pentre Ucha and it has a well-deserved reputation as one of the finest sites for miles around.

"We will certainly miss our guests, many of whom have become good friends over the years.

“However, the time was right for us to move on and we are pleased that the new owners are planning to continue from where we left off and we wish them all the luck in the world.”
