PUPILS at an Oswestry school have been learning about how to prepare for life after primary education, with the help of a skills mentor.

This summer term, children in Year 6 at Woodside School, in Gittin Street, have been learning about growing up and moving on. This has included learning about making the right choices, how to deal with peer pressure, decision making, respect, self-esteem and positive relationships.

Staff at Woodside invited Tim Allen, a mentor from Smash Life to come into school.

Tim worked with the children in small groups, focusing on key skills such as taking responsibility, respect, the consequences of actions and words, and leadership skills.

Karen Williams, associate headteacher at Woodside, said: “Staff and children have been lucky enough to work with Smash Life before.

"We were so pleased when Tim agreed to work with us to create and deliver a bespoke programme for our Year 6 children.

"The children really look forward to their time with Tim each week, and he has given them support, advice and strategies to equip them for the next step in their lives, including their move to secondary school this September.”

Smash Life deliver inspirational talks and training to young people and is an award-winning company.
