CHIRK resident and supporter of The League of Friends RJAH, Lady Susan Trevor, has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Every year the list recognises the work and achievements of a wide range of remarkable people across the United Kingdom from all backgrounds and Lady Trevor has been awarded an MBE for her 'Services to Healthcare Charities'.

For more than 53 years, Lady Trevor has supported numerous charities; Chirk Hospital Circle of Friends, Horatio's Garden, NSPCC – and most notably The League of Friends RJAH for whom she is vice-chairman and has been involved with since 1968.

Speaking about the award, Lady Trevor said it was 'unexpected'.

She said: "I am humbled to receive this honour, it was so very unexpected.

"I hope it can also highlight the work of the wonderful charities that I have been involved with, in particular The League of Friends and RJAH, a hospital which is incredibly close to my heart.

"I am part of a fantastic team and we are very fortunate to have many people working hard to support charities across Shropshire."

Meanwhile, Mark Brandreth, chief executive at the Gobowen-based hospital, said: "On behalf of everyone at RJAH I would like to congratulate Sue for this wonderful honour, it is tremendously well deserved.

"She always shows great drive and enthusiasm for the work she supports, most recently in fundraising for our Horatio's Garden, which has provided a sanctuary for patients with spinal injuries, an invaluable resource in the care of vulnerable patients during the pandemic.

"On a personal note I would like to add my own warm affection and gratitude for all the work Sue has done for the Trust."

Victoria Sugden, League of Friends charity director, added: "Lady Trevor is an exceptional individual who has consistently given her time, energy and abilities to help others over many years.

"We are so proud of her achievements and thrilled that she has been honoured in this way.

"Kindness and generosity is at the forefront of everything that she does and we could not be more delighted for her."

Secretary of State for Wales Simon Hart praised people from Wales who have received awards in the Queen's Birthday Honours list 2021.

Expressing his heartfelt thanks for their "inspiring achievements" Mr Hart congratulated all those being recognised with an award.

"In what has truly been an astonishingly challenging year, it is vital that we take the time to recognise and praise the inspiring achievements of remarkable people across society," he said.

"These awards celebrate the individuals who selflessly give back to those around them, both through their work and personal lives, and whose work can sometimes be overlooked.

"It is heart-warming to see the hugely diverse range of recipients from communities and backgrounds across Wales, recognised for their commitment to charity, education, health, sport the arts and – during a global pandemic – extraordinary work in the fight against Covid-19.

"We are all extremely grateful for the efforts of each person honoured and I'd like to personally congratulate everyone receiving an award."
