Slough’s MP has called statements Prime Minister Boris Johnson allegedly made about the coronavirus death toll “truly sickening”.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is alleged to have said: “No more ****ing lockdowns – let the bodies pile high in their thousands!”

The Prime Minister allegedly made the statements when discussing the prospect of the second lockdown, which ran throughout November last year. The allegations that PM Johnson made the statements appeared in The Mail on Sunday.

Reacting to allegations, Slough MP Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi (Labour) said: “It’s truly sickening if the Prime Minister made these comments. I hope he will make a public statement in response to this report as soon as possible.

“Sadly, like so many across the UK, I have been personally affected by Covid-19 and have lost loved ones. Doubtless, I am not alone in finding these words deeply offensive.

“Throughout the lockdowns experienced over the past year, we have all made sacrifices to protect vulnerable people and our NHS. To disregard the importance of this national effort to protect lives is abhorrent – every single life lost in this pandemic is a tragedy.”

Slough remains one of the areas worst affected by coronavirus in the UK.

Slough recorded 89 confirmed new cases in that period.

Other badly affected areas include Luton (113 new cases), Northampton (117 new cases) and Leicester (210 new cases).

All Berkshire MPs have been contacted for their reactions to Prime Minister Johnson’s alleged comments. So far the only other to reply was Sir John Redwood, MP for Wokingham (Conservative).

Sir John Redwood said: “No 10 has denied this alleged quote so I have  no intention of commenting on it.”

During the pandemic, 1,756 people in Berkshire have sadly died after testing positive for coronavirus. Sadly, 340 people have lost their lives after testing positive in Slough, the second highest number in the county - 350 people have lost their lives since the start of the pandemic in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
