ASDA has warned customers that its own brand cereal bars could contain salmonella.

The supermarket is recalling its Cranberry and Nut Cereal Bars because they ‘might be contaminated’ with the dangerous bacteria.

Symptoms caused by salmonella usually include fever, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.

Asda says it is ‘very sorry’ and is now recalling the product, and point of sale notices will be displayed in all stores that are selling it.

These notices explain to customers why the product has been recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought it.

A Food Standards Agency spokesman said: “If you have bought any of the above product do not eat it.

“Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”

What batches are affected?

If you have bought a pack with a date code of September 2019, do not eat it.

Asda quotes the barcode number as 505717208672.
