Community-minded people are being invited to find out more about volunteering for Shropshire Community Health NHS Trust.

The event on Monday, February 26 takes place at the Lord Hill Hotel in Shrewsbury, and will give people information on how they can help support community NHS services.

A wide range of opportunities are available to match people’s skills.

Mark Donovan, lead for Patient Experience and Engagement at Shropcom, said: “Our volunteers play such an important role in the work we do. We are looking for people to join us who really want to make a difference.

“The opportunities are almost limitless. We have volunteers supporting activities in our community hospitals, working with dementia patients, carrying out patient surveys, helping at health events, planning and delivering training. The list goes on and on.

“As an organisation, we are determined to put patients and carers at the heart of everything we do. Our volunteers play a pivotal role in helping us do just that.”

Milly Smith, a volunteer who serves on Shropcom’s Patient and Carer Panel, said: “We are looking at things through the eyes of patients and carers, and we can bring a different perspective.

“It’s an important role and it is a rewarding one. We get excellent support from Mark and others at Shropcom, so I would certainly encourage people to get involved.”

Fellow volunteer Phil Stringer added: “I find it very satisfying to be able to look back at the work we’ve done and see we have improved things.

“It certainly gives me a little glow to be able to see that the work we do as volunteers is really making a difference.”

The event at the Lord Hill will run from 10am to 1pm and will be followed by a free lunch for everyone who has attended. Places are limited, so anyone interested is asked to book.
