LUTON Town Football Club's rags to riches story has revuberated around the world since securing their return to the top flight of English football last month.

Manager Rob Edwards has been hailed for masterminding the club's promotion and his success has been celebrated in Chirk where his family hail.

The former Welsh international, who also played for Aston Villa, Wolves and Blackpool is the son of Allan and Christine Edwards who are both from the Chirk area.

Edwards is part of a footballing dynasty with strong links to Chirk AAA Football Club.

Both his grandfather and father both played for Chirk with Dick 'Diggy' Edwards captaining the club in the 1940s and 50s while goalkeeper Allan played for the Colliers during the 1970s and 80s while also representing Wales at under 18s level. 

More recently Edwards' cousin Carl Parrish played and managed Chirk in the 1990s.

The Edwards family has a rich pedigree in footballing terms with another cousin Sean Parrish representing Shrewsbury Town, Doncaster Rovers and Northamton Town before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers as a coach.

Meanwhile Rob's daughter Lexi, also plays for Aston Villa while another close relative, Spencer Parrish, is a former Chirk player who played for Guilsfield last season in JD Cymru North while another relatation,  Euan Rowlandson has recently signed for the Colliers.
