They added: “Due to concerns that other people could still be trapped inside, four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus (BA), and equipped with two high-pressure hose reel jets, were immediately committed into the property to search for any trapped persons and tackle the fire.
“The crews worked extremely hard in punishing temperatures as they made their way through the property.
“Their efforts were made significantly more difficult and hazardous when part of the first floor gave way and collapsed into the ground floor.”
Due to the severity of the fire, more crews were called from Prees, Audlem Tweedale Telford and Whitchurch.
Both casualties were transported by West Midlands Ambulance Service to the Royal Stoke University Hospital under emergency conditions for further assessment and treatment.
The spokesperson for Market Drayton Fire Station added: “Thankfully, following further information received at the scene, it was confirmed that no additional people were trapped inside the property.
“The fire was brought under control approximately one hour after the arrival of the first crew.
“Through the hard work of all the attending crews, fire damage was contained to the property of origin. The building suffered significant damage throughout from fire, heat and smoke.
“We would like to thank our colleagues from West Mercia Police and West Midlands Ambulance Service, as well as the members of the public who helped care for the casualties, for their support and assistance during this challenging incident.
“The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, with specialist Fire Investigation Officers attending the scene during daylight hours.
“Our thoughts and best wishes are with the two casualties, and we hope they both make a full and speedy recovery.”
