A care home near Oswestry has shared the sad news that one of its much-loved residents died just a few days after celebrating her 100th birthday.
Edna, who was a resident at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Gobowen, died peacefully on August 27, just three days after reaching her centenary.
She had received more than birthday cards from around the world to mark her milestone, with the eventual number that arrived surpassing 200.
She celebrated her 100th birthday on August 24 at the home after staff put out a public appeal for birthday cards to help make her day extra special.
The response was overwhelming, with Edna receiving cards from well-wishers across the globe, including Canada, Australia, and Holland, as well as from local communities and care homes in the Oswestry area.
In a Facebook post shared on Thursday, staff at the home said it had been a "privilege" to have cared for her.
They said: "Just a few weeks ago, we had the absolute privilege of celebrating a truly incredible milestone with Edna as she reached her 100th birthday.
"It was a day filled with so much love, laughter and celebration.
"Edna received over 200 birthday cards from people near and far, completely surpassing our original wish of 100 cards.
"We were truly overwhelmed by the kindness shown to Edna and her family and by how many people helped to make such an incredible milestone so special."
On the day after her passing, the care home received a touching video from the Fron Male Voice Choir, who had recorded a special rendition of Happy Birthday in Edna’s honour.
Although she did not have the chance to see it, staff said the tribute was deeply meaningful.
The care home has now shared the video publicly with the blessing of Edna’s family.
The post continued: "Although Edna didn't get to watch it herself, we know just how much it would have meant to her.
"It feels only right that this lovely tribute is shared and becomes part of the memories surrounding such a special lady and her remarkable 100 years of life.
"A huge thank you to the Fron Male Voice Choir for taking the time to do this for Edna.
"Your kindness genuinely meant so much to us and to her family."
