A Tesco worker accused of failing to tell the Department for Work and Pensions he had started work while claiming more than £11,000 in benefits has denied the offence.
Peter Mark Crouch, 63, of Llansantffraid, appeared before Welshpool Magistrates' Court charged with dishonestly failing to notify DWP officials of a change in circumstances affecting his entitlement to benefits.
The court heard Crouch is alleged to have failed to inform the DWP that he had started working at Tesco for 22.5 hours a week while receiving Employment and Support Allowance, a benefit paid to people whose health affects their ability to work.
Prosecutor Helen Tench said the alleged offence took place between May 2023 and December 2024 and involved an overpayment of just over £11,000.
However, Crouch denies the charge.
Represented by solicitor Owain Jones, Crouch entered a not guilty plea and elected to have the case heard before a jury.
Magistrates granted him unconditional bail and sent the case to Mold Crown Court, where he is due to appear on October 9.
