Dinas Brân Castle will be illuminated pink and blue next month as part of a worldwide act of remembrance for babies who have died.
The landmark overlooking Llangollen will be lit at 7pm on Thursday, October 15, as people across the world take part in the annual Wave of Light.
The event marks the end of Baby Loss Awareness Week, held every year from October 9 to 15 to remember babies and pregnancies lost too soon and raise awareness of the impact of baby loss.
Retired midwife Lucy Davies, who has long been involved in bereavement support and remembrance events in the Wrexham area, confirmed Dinas Brân would take part this year.
She said: “This year Dinas Brân Castle will be lit up in blue and pink on October 15 at 7pm to commemorate the Wave of Light, which takes place across the globe on this date and time every year.”
The Wave of Light sees people light a candle at 7pm in their own time zone and leave it burning for at least an hour.
As 7pm reaches different countries, the candles create a symbolic wave of light travelling around the world in memory of babies who have died.
The event forms part of Baby Loss Awareness Week, which began in the UK in 2002 as Baby Loss Awareness Day before expanding into a week-long campaign the following year.
The week is now supported by a wide range of charities and organisations working with families affected by pregnancy and baby loss.
Its aims include giving bereaved families an opportunity to remember their babies, raising awareness of pregnancy and baby loss and improving the support available to those affected.
This year’s lighting of Dinas Brân comes after the annual baby loss Service of Remembrance at St Mary’s Cathedral in Wrexham was cancelled because of building work.

Instead, a remembrance tree will be placed at St Collen’s Church in Llangollen from October 9 to 15, where families can add the names of babies they wish to remember.
A Christmas tree will also be placed at Tŷ Pawb in Wrexham during December, allowing families to add a bauble bearing their baby’s name.
The illumination of Dinas Brân will give families in the area another way to join thousands of people around the world in remembrance at 7pm on October 15.
