A running club is helping people rediscover their love of running with a new support scheme.

Run Chums, based in Four Crosses on the Shropshire-Powys border, has launched an eight-week 'Return to Running' course designed for individuals who have previously completed Couch 25K or used to run regularly but have since fallen out of the habit.

The course begins on September 7 and has been created by qualified run leader Caroline Johnson.

Ms Johnson said: "If you haven’t been running for a while, then taking those first steps can be pretty daunting.

"The Return to Running course will give you the excuse you need to put your trainers back on."

Unlike Couch 25K, the course is less rigid and focuses on meeting runners where they are in their journey.

Ms Johnson said: "We’ll be starting off at an easy, sustainable pace, which will also include walk breaks when needed.

"The aim is to help you rebuild your confidence and stamina, and we’ll celebrate at the end by taking part in a Parkrun."

Participants will also have access to the club’s weekly Wednesday sessions, which focus on running skills, fitness, technique, and speed.

Run Chums chairman Chris King said: "We’re not the biggest club in the area, but we’re certainly one of the friendliest, and our members are always really welcoming.

"We also have very experienced leaders who are always available to offer support and advice when needed, so 'Return to Running' is a really good way for people to see what we’re all about."

The course costs £10, with the first two weeks offered free of charge.

Those taking part can also become full-time members and continue running with the club, allowing them to keep the momentum going.

The launch of 'Return to Running' follows a busy month for Run Chums, which recently hosted its first plogging session, collecting three bags of litter during a group run.

Members also climbed Rodney’s Pillar to view a partial solar eclipse and took part in an early morning run to watch balloons take off from the Oswestry Balloon Carnival.

Run Chums meets every Monday at various locations along the Shropshire-Powys border.

All group leaders hold a Leadership in Running Fitness (LiRF) qualification, and the club also has a qualified running coach.
